Local notes and births in Lafayette and surrounding towns

Mrs. Stephen Losh and Mrs. J. C. Sharrer visited Lafayette on Friday and Thursday. A son was born to both Roy Myers and Otto Hooker families on Friday. Several residents traveled to nearby towns while others hosted visitors. The Delaney farm and J. C. Ren families noted weather and social events. The Remington Methodist dedication is planned for July 1. A countywide July 4th celebration at Winamac park is set to promote Red Cross work with a parade and ball game. Burglaries affected several Rensselaer businesses and homes.

Gillam Pair Weds in Chicago Heights Surprise Ceremony

Miss Cornelia Leonard daughter of Gillam residents and Edward L Watson a state militia lieutenant married in Chicago Heights on a surprise midweek ceremony. Also Edward Rose and Miss Ressie Watson wed in Whiting after planning Purdue trip then eloping to Rensselaer and Whiting.

Prairie Hope Sunday School Holds Centennial Exercises

Children’s Exercises at the Stone’s Bridge School House marked the centennial of the American Sunday School Union. Rev W H Hess spoke, with participants from Francesville and Monon Chapel. A total offering of 33.15 was raised for the work.

Wind Driven Hail Strikes Beaver Area Damaging Crops

Beaver observer I. M. Horney reports a wind driven hail storm Friday that damaged crops across a mile by three miles from New Bethel church northeast to Pauls chapel. He lists heavy losses among Lewis Ringen Gideon Wilson Joachim Kruger estate Fred Garling Guy Wilson James Hamlin and L M Horney with many small buildings blown over and trees uprooted.

Boy seeks cherry picking job in local help ad

Ringling Brothers at Lafayette with Cinderella Spectacle

Ringling Brothers announce Saturday performances in Lafayette on July 14 with a new program headlined by Cinderella. The show features over 1000 participants, 300 dancing girls in the Ballet of the Fairies, 400 attired artists in the main tent, a trained animal display, 1009 wild animals including Big Bingo the pachyderm, 41 elephants, nearly 800 horses, 60 clowns, and a three mile morning street parade.

Capsule Lottery to Select Inductees in Indiana Draft

The provost marshal general favors a capsule drawing system for selecting draftees. Each registered man gets a numbered slip sealed in a capsule, then capsules are mixed in a vase for the draw. The method aims to ensure fairness, as numbers alone identify individuals and no one knows the numbers beforehand. The old jury wheel was rejected as unsatisfactory.

Infant Jacobs Dead in Selma Oklahoma

Infant Anna Jacobs ten months daughter of the late Jennie Jacobs and granddaughter of Carl and Jennie Schleman died in Selma Oklahoma on Tuesday. Burial will be there. Henry Russell of Kentland visited the town this Saturday with Henry and W J Hubbard. Dr H G Jones attended the Western Dental Association picnic near Lafayette on the wabash. Mr and Mrs Ernest C Morgan moved to town to run the Commercial hotel, after two years with Standard Oil Company.

World War in Prophecy sermon and Red Cross drive

Christa in Church promotes Sunday schedule with a 9 30 Bible School lesson on Isaias heroic service and a 10 30 sermon branded with the marks of Jesus. Bible school drew 133 last Lord's day, ten more than last year. Tomorrow Medaryville hosts a Red Cross meeting led by Francesville boosters.

Methodist Church Sunday School Plans Patriotic Program

The Sunday School will meet at 9 30 a m with Isaiah's Call to Heroic Service. Public worship follows at 10 30 a m in the school house. No evening preaching. Patriotic Sunday features a special opening program. Church asks members to give 100000 to the Red Cross Fund. Mid week service next Wednesday at 7 45 p m. Pastor A L Brandenburg.
