Raymond Evernham of this city won the college tennis singles title at North Manchester College last Thursday by defeating Ivan Kindy 9-7 5-7 6-0, an honor reflecting the college's high tennis rank. He is the son of Grant Evernham, southeast of Francesville.
The Christian Workers plan a food market at Hudgens grocery next Saturday morning with tasty items for sale. Dunn's will offer fresh buttered popcorn and homemade candy Saturday evening. Local residents share travel and health news including Mrs. Joseph Pelsey Jr in Quincy for cancer treatment and Miss Zora Tillett returning from Wenatchee.
The forest service plans aerial surveys to locate and photograph undiscovered lakes in Alaska's national forests. Lakes along the Inside Passage and near Short Bay have remained unnamed due to rugged terrain, but mapping by air could reveal water power sources and drastically speed up charting compared with traditional methods.
Attorney General L S Lesh states the state highway commission is not legally required to repair streets in incorporated state highways. The commission has discretionary power to undertake improvements to improve the state highway system, but it is not obligated to perform such work.
The Indianapolis News reports Harry L. Troutman of Indianapolis will become editor and publisher of the Rensselaer Republican, succeeding L. H. Hamilton. Troutman has served as assistant clerk for the state board of accounts and the state board of election commissioners and later worked with Ft. Wayne Printing and W. B. Burford Co. in printing contracts.

Francis Scott improving after Fayette health trip stays with sister Mrs Crist Koo key. Winona Telephone Company hosts an employer outing for about seventy three at Bestview hotel Bass Lake with Jessie Jentz Blanche Grafton attending from here. W S Daniels secretary treasurer organized the outing.
The Rev A S Warriner of Terre Haute was reelected president of the Battle Ground Epworth League Institute at the last week business session A number of local people attended the institute which was one of the most successful ever held The Rev A E Monger of South Bend named vice president and the Rev T L Stovall of Crawfordsville secretary treasurer Rev O T Martin elected life service secretary to succeed Rev J F Williams who asked to be relieved The institute closed Sunday Dr Bert E Smith invited to be dean for next year and the demonstration showed the high regard for him. It was recommended that each district contribute 150 for next year’s expense the office of registrar and publicity be abolished and that the secretary treasurer together with one from each district handle publicity and registration.
Dr. H. L. Miller received an appointment from the Indiana Chiropractic Association to represent the state at the Chiropractic Research Society convention in Davenport Iowa, late August. The honor reflects his standing among leading chiropractors and he will report to his state association on his return.
Friday and Saturday shows July 28 and 29 feature Eugene O'Brien in John Smith and a Selznick News reel. August 1 and 2 present Revenge of Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs. August 4 and 5 offer Sure Fire with Hoot Gibson and a Star Comedy.

The Women s Foreign Missionary Society will hold a market on Saturday August 12 starting at 9 a m Everything good to eat. Mrs Maude Schneer of Rice Lake Wis visits her brother L M Poundstone and family. Mrs A D Wright southeast of town underwent tumor removal at St Elizabeth hospital Lafayette. Bert Overman injured by a drill at Smoyer shop will keep his left eye but may lose sight. Sheriff Frank Koepkey arrested Charley Harris at the Frain hotel for prior thefts. Harris a former convict on parole is accused of stealing from hotel guests.
George B. Lockwood warns that public figures who seek independence from party affiliation undermine responsible government. He argues parties must resist dissolution, urging voters to hold politicians accountable and test their claims by running without party designation.
Francesville hosts installation of post officers led by Monday F. H. Henley and J. K. Yarnell. The newly organized American Legion post is named in honor of Hermann Malchow, son of Jacob F. Malchow, who fell in France.
Beginning July 31 the library will be open Saturdays only with afternoon hours 2 to 5 and evening 6 30 to 8 30. Farmers report wheat and rye threshing ongoing this week with oats to follow in 7 to 10 days.
Congressman Milton Kraus Edward Jackson and John A Jones led a district meeting in Winamac Tuesday to organize the fall campaign. Precinct committeemen newspaper men and local political workers attended as candidates prepared to stress expenditures and savings under the budget system versus prior disbursements. The campaign aims to educate voters and illuminate savings before a future showdown.
Anna Bledsoe Hayworth, 60, died at the family home in Crawfordsville after a brief sickness. Funeral held there. She was the wife of James N Hayworth and mother to two sons and two daughters. Survived by brothers H W Bledsoe of this place and M H Bledsoe of Fort Wayne.
The American Petroleum Institute reports U S refineries set a new production record in May at 12,229,973 barrels of motor fuel. Despite this, the remaining supply per automobile dips to eighty two gallons for 10,448,632 registered cars if production halted.
Dr James Tf Stygall of Indianapolis will conduct a free county clinic at the courthouse in Rensselaer on August 8. The Tuberculosis Society sponsors the event to locate and treat as many cases as possible in the community.
The Young Ladies Foreign Missionary Society will hold a homemade candy sale at Dunn's on Saturday evening with popcorn also for sale.
Rev Carl Cole returns from a two week visit in Morocco. Mrs Phelia Hubbell stayed in Manon with Mrs Alice Pogue. The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society meets at the library Friday August 4 at 2 pm led by Mrs George Fox. Mr and Mrs Argus Rotruck and daughter and Mr and Mrs Hewett of Detroit take a three week fishing trip down the Tippecanoe. Dr and Mrs R J Ives and son Raymond and Mrs L W Hubbell visit Hull Illinois for a week and family reunion. Mrs Floyd Burchard and daughter visit W R Jones and Mr and Mrs Charles Reish with Mr and Mrs Howard Jones and Miss Helen Jones from Redkey Indiana.
About 950 farmers across 58 Indiana counties enroll in the 1922 five acre contest led by Purdue University staff. Entrants must join the Corn Growers association before June 13 and keep complete labor records for their five acre plots. Medal prizes honor yields from bronze to gold with One Hundred Bushel Club membership.
Monticello won 3 to 1 over San Pierre in the second game of the series at Monon Sunday before large crowds from Rensselaer Monticello Francesville Medaryville and San Pierre. Maloney held Monticello to three singles while Ferguson allowed seven hits in a well played contest. Umpire Ifugh Kirk officiated without incident and the teams schedule a rematch at Monon next Sunday.
The Christian Church announces morning worship at 10 45 a m and evening service at 7 30 p m with Christian Endeavor at 6 30 p m. The public is invited and asked to bring friends.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Huffine spent Sunday in Tipton. Miss Helen Shirtz Harold and Ora Trader Lon Monbeck and Orland Rhinehart were home Sunday from North Manchester. Miss Gladys Hudgens of Lafayette came Saturday for an extended visit with her parents Mr and Mrs J M Hudgens.
