The American Red Cross plans for every French hospital treating U S soldiers to have one Red Cross nurse and a French English speaking aide. Dr. Harry E. Barnard federal food administrator for Indiana announced that grocers violating Sunday closing orders will lose access to licensed commodities. He said the Sun day rule must be followed and offenders will be cut off from supplies while compliant grocers are penalized for others’ noncompliance.
Lieutenant Tierhert J. Horner and Miss Francis Tall wed in a Greenville Baptist church on Saturday afternoon at 3. The couple’s witnesses included Mr Hall of Alexandria and the brides’ relatives Mrs Flo Diamondstone and Mrs Alta Smith. A wedding dinner followed at the hotel, with the party later taking a Blue Ridge trip in North Carolina.
Dr. Harry F. Barnard, federal food administrator for Indiana, warns that threshing and buying damp wheat contradict Food Administration goals and food conservation. He says wheat above 14 percent moisture should not be threshed or purchased, and dealers handling damp wheat risk charges for destruction of foodstuffs.
Chester Best, a 21 year old Boswell native and Nordyke Marmon plant tester in Indianapolis, drowned Sunday afternoon while boating at Broad Ripple with two young women. He was well known in Boswell as a son of Mr and Mrs John Best and former owner of the Beaver school section farm.

The Federal Food Administration announced a temporary rule allowing farmers who grow and bring their own wheat to mills to receive 8 pounds of wheat flour per person per month without substitutes until October 1 1918. The miller provides flour on an exchange basis, with certs that the wheat was grown by the farmer and that the flour will be used only for human consumption by the farmer's household or establishment.
Twenty men from Wanatah, many in the Wanatah neighborhood, were moved from deferred classification to Class One and face immediate call. Justice of the Peace Henry Wolfe of South Wanatah, who aided with their questionnaires, was tried and sentenced in federal court to two years for obstruction of the draft and is imprisoned in Atlanta. Some men were witnesses, some admitted perjury, and Wolfe offered to fill answers for a dollar apiece amid patriotic claims.
Mrs. Charles Turner of the Monticello area died after an accident while bathing in the Tippecanoe river. While riding a horse across the stream the animal slipped into a hole and threw her, causing a series of submersions. Her husband held her by the hair until rescuers arrived, and she later died from lung hemorrhages at ten that night.
The public library will close for August with limited hours. Starting August operations will be suspended except Saturdays from 2 to 5 pm and 6:30 to 8:45 pm.
Dr H L Miller of Monticello will resume practice after cancelling dates for a death in his family and will be at his office Monday July 29. Harve J Robinson, former Republican linotype operator, returns from farming in Mississippi to work at both the Times and Picayune offices in New Orleans.

Illinois Governor Frank Lowden spoke to about 15 000 Swedish Americans in Evanston on Sunday. He urged unity of all nationalities for victory and compared the fates of the Kaiser's sons to Theodore Roosevelt's sons, praising American sacrifice and the Allied war effort.
L T Hamilton of the Rensselaer Republican laments the credit system as a cancer on business and society. He argues it allows people to live beyond means, harms merchants, and fosters debt dodging, calling debtors and “human parasites” responsible for widespread suffering.
The War Department announced that war risk insurance under the act is paid over twenty years after death. Benefits are $5.75 monthly per $1,000 of coverage for 246 monthly installments. A $10,000 policy would yield $57.50 monthly for twenty years to the beneficiary.
Pulaski Jasper and White counties furnished their quotas for the July call of men to services Monday. Jasper sent 92 and Pulaski 36. Among those entrained at Winamac were Romeo Gudeman and George Minnicus. Minnicus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Minnions, southeast of town, had an operation recovery and enlistment deferred. third son in the family called. Mr. Coburn of White Post township gave his fifth son to the service in this call.
John Reeder and Son, who ran a bakery and confectionery in Monticello area for about a year, have closed their shop and moved stock and fixtures to Monticello where they were previously located. The move follows a reportedly more favorable business climate there. The Redlers enjoyed a good local trade during their stay.
