Lightning struck the Lewis Lehman farm west of town Tuesday afternoon killing five head of horses and mules. Three horses belonged to Albert Carnes and the mules to Ezekiel Timmons. Insurance covered the losses through American and Ohio Farmers. Otis Culp in the same area also lost a horse with Ohio Farmers insurance.

Jacob Groffart 26 was struck by lightning during a storm while working with Wil Flick on Phillip Gutwein farm near the Jasper county line road opposite the Guingrich place. A bolt hit the telephone line, two poles fell, Groffart lost consciousness, was revived by Dr. F L Sharrer after Flick summoned help, his watch stopped at 4 23, chain melted, no bodily marks. Groffart and Flick had recently arrived from Chicago.
Friday dawn crash near Rensselaer claimed life of R W Barrabach with W H Barricklow injured. The pair, from Chicago, were en route to Indianapolis when fog and a roadside skid caused a somersault into a ditch. A Benton county farmer Jacob Datznan and wife perished near Fowler with three children injured when their car overturned after hitting a wet road hole.
The Interstate Commerce Commission reports steep express rate cuts averaging about 15 percent along with broad regulatory reforms. It notes the major express firms are intertwined through stock ownership and interlocks.
