Sol Burkhalter a well known Lafayette resident died at St Elizabeths hospital Thursday at noon after a prolonged illness. once financially prosperous he later faced reverses and earned a living as a horse trainer and trader. he was 68 and burial took place in Dayton Saturday. also notes miss Gladys Evernham visiting Medaryville friends and Gus J Daseke visiting Cap Clark at Terre Haute State Normal activities.

Francesville man killed after fall from scaffold at Linwood school
Elmer Bud Whitted of Francesville died Monday after falling forty feet from a scaffold while painting at Linwood school. He landed on cement pavement after losing balance. Dr. Van Reed arrived too late. Whitted was born in Edgar Illinois and had lived in Francesville and nearby towns. The report notes his service in Battery C during the Spanish American War and local connections through marriage and residence.

Team of Horses Electrocuted in Monticello Thunderstorm
Comos Shafer’s pair of fine black horses were killed by an electrical line break during a heavy rain in Monticello last Thursday evening. A tree branch fell on a high voltage wire, creating a live circuit as one end dropped into street water, instantly killing the duo valued at $400.

Horse on fire in Lafayette chase ends after collision
