Local notes report a baby girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Amos Westphal. A freight of social visits, sales and meetings fill the week including Budreau sale plans, Miss Blanche Grafton visiting Manon, and Mrs. Rice’s New York trip. Several residents travel for business or relatives, with club meetings and a cinema event noted.
The Public Service Commission of Indiana released a report after a Monon hearing for Continental Utilities Company patrons. It orders stronger distribution, a stationing lineman, and Monon tree trimming to improve lighting service amid past shortages and financing issues. Local management is commended.

The state senate, by one dissenting vote, approves a bill imposing heavier penalties for automobile theft and restricting clemency by governor and judges. The measure sets three to five years for first offenses and five to twenty years for later thefts, with limited governor parole powers and no judge sentence suspensions.
The War Department reports the American army of occupation in Germany will fall from 15,000 to 6,000. The piece questions delaying the withdrawal and argues against continuing armed presence at such cost. It also calls for nonracial guarding by nations with material interests and opposes employing African troops.

He predicted a revival by August at latest and noted potential rate cuts and a summer car shortage amid the rebound. He urged government payment of guaranty funds to speed changes.
The state department issued 164 354 passports to American citizens in 1920. This surpassed 1919 by about 66 402 and was roughly triple the 1918 total of 56 828, as the year’s records show a sharp rise in issued documents.

Martin Guss of Monticello area tried to eject a cat from his house. The cat bit his left hand and would not release its hold until it was killed. The wound is painful but not expected to cause serious injury.
The Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington on Tuesday approved a loan of 115000 dollars to the Chicago Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad to help purchase five Mikado type freight locomotives at a total cost of 340000 dollars. The carrier must finance 225000 dollars to meet the government loan.
Jacob R. Saine a 42 year old Culver businessman died Saturday after being shot by bandits December 29 during the State Exchange Bank robbery. He helped lead the pursuit that resulted in four of five bandits being captured. Four men linked to the crime are in Indiana State Prison at Michigan City as Marshall County grand jury probes the heist.
Richard Kellogg two months old died Monday evening from whooping cough. Funeral held Wednesday at home with Rev. J. E. Sidebottom officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery east of town.
