Dry Hole Becomes Record Gusher in Gibson County

A well near Oatsville in Gibson County, drilled to 1650 feet after earlier abandonment at 1500 feet, has become a major gusher. The Central and Coast company, reusing tools, now reports a high volume flow with tanks under rapid construction and estimates at least a sea barrel per day.

Fire damages dwelling and contents in town

Fire last Friday afternoon damaged the residence of Mrs. Emily Da seke in the east part of town. Occupants Mrs. Margaret Finnegan and goods were affected. Fire destroys Winamac Hospital in Tuesday blaze

A fire at Winamac Hospital Tuesday night at 10 o clock destroyed the building. Two patients were moved to safety as most surgical instruments and lower floor contents were saved. The operating room contents were lost and the blaze was blamed on a defective chimney.

Divorce Law Declared Invalid by Court Ruling

The state appellate court struck down a 1913 amendment to the sixty day filing rule for divorce suits, saying the amendment was not properly enacted. A divorce may be granted before sixty days in some cases, and hearings can proceed after the return day around ten days after filing. The Laporte circuit court’s grant twenty four days after filing was upheld only to the extent of the ruling, with the invalidated amendment noted.
