A threshing engine exploded on the Con Dwyer farm ten miles east of Francesville yesterday at about 3 PM. Johnny Hawkins suffered a crushed leg and deep groin wound. Moses Reynolds had a broken leg. Both were aided at the Dwyer home before transport to medical care. others were only slightly hurt. The machine, owned by G W Gilger, may have exploded due to a faulty boiler. no reason given. From Monon News: Monon Crushed Stone Co plans major spring upgrades including a new 250 horsepower Corliss engine and No. 8 crushing machine to boost daily output to about 2000 yards.
A 62 year old Noah Kline died at his home after acute alcoholism and a fall in a drunken stupor. Police blame two saloon keepers who allegedly catered to patrons over weeks leading to the fatal incident. Community concern grows over the role of saloons in the tragedy.
Oran Day shot Harry Arrick after a dispute during a poker game at Arrick's poker den in Monticello. Arrick was shot below the heart and Day fled, with police still seeking him. A Thursday morning report said Arrick had rallied and likely would recover. Pillabury Flour at Clark's.
