The Citizen Times recounts a scheme by Game Warden Randall and prosecutor Claudius Ireland to seize furs from farmers under dubious warrants. They allegedly posed as fur buyers, confiscated pelts, and pressed fines, but charges collapsed when the prosecutor withdrew for lack of evidence.
A memorial service for Private Herman C Malchow will be held next Sunday at 1 30 PM at White Post Evangelical Church northeast of Francesville. He died of wounds received in action in France.
The body of Byron Tyner of Monon, a 65 year old bachelor, was found in his room at the Cottage Hotel east of the depot after being dead about six weeks. Coroner’s inquest held. burial occurred in Monon on Monday.

A wartime letter from Sergeant Clarence Geyer at Camp Beauregard Louisiana, dated November with mud and delays described. He notes transfer to the quartermaster department, absence of drill, managing 150 men, and a visit to Monroe with a cousin and a friend. He mentions a turkey dinner and asks for greetings to friends back home.
The High School Athletic Association secured the hall opposite the post office for basketball this season. Players Kopka West Hall Leis Myers and Rhinehart form the team. They beat Monon High School 26 to 12 on Thanksgiving Day and then lost 19 to 22 to Wanatah the following evening after a close contest.
Nine year old Sylvia Sharrer daughter of Dr. and Mrs. F L Sharrer died of diphtheria at their Benton Harbor home at 3 PM on Thanksgiving Day. Grandparents Dr J Sharrer and Mrs J Sharrer had rushed to the bedside after learning of her condition. The child, known as Tootie, was a town favorite and survives include parents and eleven year old brother Gerald. Funeral at Dean chapel Benton Harbor with burial in Crystal Springs cemetery.

The Gamble, new torpedo destroyer built at Newport News Shipbuilding, was placed in active service Monday after delivery last Wednesday. It is expected to reach speeds above thirty knots in trials and is captained by Leland Groves, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Groves from the southeast neighborhood.
