Death of Capt James W McMurray Veteran officer and farmer
Captain James W. McMurray aged 68 died at his home in Francesville after a bout with pneumonia following years of rheumatism. A Civil War veteran, he served as captain in the 72 Illinois Volunteer Infantry and later led local veterans and the Knights of Pythias. Born November 7 1840 in Green County New York he moved to Illinois in 1850 and married Isadore Clark in 1866. He leaves six children and several sisters. Funeral services were held at the Christian church with local veterans in attendance.

Sanitary Cups Introduced On Rail Trains First Use
A new sanitary device to replace reusable drinking cups is being adopted on railroads led by the Lakawana. A hundred or more disposable cups are stored in a nickel plated tube near the water cooler and are discarded after use. The cups are paraffin coated and manufactured automatically, remaining untouched until the drinker. Fifteen state boards of health have been urged to abolish the train cup for better sanitation.

Foot J udgment Settled in Local Case Against Traction
John Grass formerly of this city now runs a barber shop in Chalmers received 6574.82 yesterday from the Fort Wayne and Wabash Valley Traction company to settle a judgment from the county circuit court dated May 15 1905. The jury awarded 5318 but the verdict was set aside and the defendant won on appeal. A rehearing denied, appellant awarded on the verdict. The supreme court overruled a transfer motion. The plaintiff’s amount grows by interest. Grass was struck by a street car at the Main street bridge, his foot crushed off.

Two Runaway Team Incidents In Beaver Township
Charles Malchow of Beaver township endured two runaway incidents in town Monday afternoon. A frightened team pulled a farm wagon past Street and Finnegan’s store, then south on Brook street and west to the south road before stopping over a mile south of town. The team later bolted near the White Elephant barn, and the wagon overturned near John Garling’s residence, injuring Malchow with cuts to the cheek and chin, and a badly gashed wrist requiring stitches.
