A tense night in Atlanta ends with escalating race violence as white and Black residents clash near Clark University. State militia, 260 deputies, and mass meetings are in place. firearms are halted and Brownsville fears a related flare.
In Atlanta in 1919 a militia raid on Brownsville near Clark University led to 257 arrests, about 30 armed suspects seized, and multiple deaths. Postmaster J L Price was among those seized for ammunition supply. Early reports note several wounded and killed as authorities scoured the settlement for arms.
Reports show the Fort Wayne fair drew 6,400 more admissions than last season, with total counts pending after excluding complimentary and exhibitors’ tickets. The closing races featured Steeltrap winning the derby, Blue Satin and Blaze Duchess earning first prizes, and Compass taking the steeplechase, while advertising efforts boosted turnout.
Buffalo dispatch reports Hearst likely to win the Democratic state convention nomination for New York governor with a single ballot. Anti-Hearst forces vow a desperate push to unite opposed elements, but no firm coalition emerges and Hearst’s nomination seems likely.
Thursday and Friday produced record crowds for the Fort Wayne fair meet. About forty thousand paid admissions, plus complimentary tickets and those for concessionaires and exhibitors, brought the total near fifty thousand. Early crowds poured in as steam and interurban railroads delivered thousands from a fifty mile radius. Friday logged about 25,000 admissions, setting a Friday record.
A demented man named William Mast wandered for about two weeks in the woods and was located a few miles from his Goshen home. Authorities report he appeared disoriented but is safe. Street names and exact recovery location not disclosed.

William J. Bryan and Mrs. Bryan arrived in Memphis from New Orleans amid heavy rain to a large crowd. He spoke at the Lyceum theater, discussing tariff policy and government ownership of railroads, arguing states may own transportation if federal laws fail.
In Whiting Indiana on September 25 the court injunction against picketing at Standard Oil's plant reduced tensions as striking workers abandoned their station near the gates. Terry Martin and sparring officials linked to last night’s auditorium exhibition appeared in court on a manslaughter charge for the Philadelphia boxer's death. Physicians attribute McKenzie’s death to a blow to the heart. A post mortem and coroner’s inquest are scheduled for tomorrow.

They warned insurgent forces are looting and burning, and that force may become necessary. They said elections were rotten, Palma remains president but terms may be altered per cabinet advice, and reports have the situation cabling to President Roosevelt.
Indianapolis September 25 Governor Hanly proclaims Tuesday November 6 as the date of the special election in Indiana's Twelfth congressional district to fill the vacant seat. The vacancy arises after Newton W. Gilbert resigned to become judge advocate for the Philippines. Both parties are expected to nominate their regular term candidates for the unexpired term at their conventions.
