President McKinley died at 2 15 AM after a long illness. Theodore Roosevelt took the oath at 3 30 PM. The funeral plan includes a Washington state funeral, with arrivals, processions, and interment at Canton and the President's home. Mrs McKinley expressed sorrow and resilience, urging strength for her husband.
General Gillespie received Col Bing hams telegram detailing the funeral arrangements for late President McKinley. The funeral train leaves Buffalo Monday at 8 30 for Washington, body to lie in the east room Monday night, Mrs McKinley to stay at the executive mansion, then removal to the Capitol Tuesday for the lying in state until Wednesday. The train to Canton departs after a 2 p m arrival. General Brooke to arrive 5 p m and cabinet action to follow in Washington.
At Milburn House in Buffalo on September 14 the autopsy concluded the bullet said to be in the back muscles was not located. Death is due to toxemia. An X ray will locate the bullet and a machine has been sent for use today.
Buffalo dispatch details the final hours at the Milburn house as President McKinley nears death. Cabinet members, relatives, and doctors gather. Mrs. McKinley consoles him. the dying leader recites Nearer My God to Thee and bids farewell. Oxygen supports him until early morning when life finally ebbs.
