Porters and census clerks push to finish eleventh census reports. First 500 pages set for public printer by September 15. 62,622,250 population card punched. Over 1,250,000,000 holes. Daily punch rate 700 cards since Feb 28, 1891. Women show strong adaptability. work backbone remains firm. Congress to receive several volumes by December.
Indiana Republicans organize across thirteen districts to oppose President Harrison for a Blaine Hovey ticket with O W Fairbanks and George W Allen guiding efforts. Indiana papers rally against Harrison and back Blaine for president and Hovey as vice president.
Warre Picton Michigan Sept 4 The dynamite factory owned by Reynolds Co near Warre Picton exploded yesterday Two tons of dynamite in a three story brick building were wiped out Sixteen workers mostly Poles and Norwegians were annihilated with no names recoverable A 35000 loss was reported and the blast shook White Pigeon smashing spire and cracking walls across town
Ex president Balmaceda born 1840. A reformer and lawyer, he served as deputy, interior minister, and prime minister who backed civil marriage. He won the 1886 presidency but centralized power, sparked civil war, and was defeated when Santiago fell to the congressional forces led by Osato.
Fighting Ed Corrigan ends the Hawthorne track racing for 1891 citing poor attendance, lack of bookmakers, and daily losses. Corrigan says racing will resume next spring with ninety days of racing before the Washington park meeting, and plans to offer ninety valuable stakes.
Ogawtorpsqite Indiana September 7 fear grips Crawfordsville as residents report a hovering monster at midnight for two nights running. Described as 18 feet long 8 feet wide with several side fins it inspires dread of calamity or apocalyptic signs among townspeople who stayed awake watching the sky.
In Mo on Sept 4 Chas Waglight reports cattle twelve miles south of town suffer mouth inflammation and refusal to eat or drink. The condition mirrors a mouth disease seen in Benton county and has been reported to ex Assistant State Veterinarian T E White.
During the parade last Monday the six year old son of John Neirmann at 276 West Washington Street was knocked down by a horse. The wagon wheels ran over his shoulders and left arm and struck his face causing serious injuries. Drs Buchmann and Siemnen attended.
New York dispatches report Balmaceda eluding pursuers by crossing the Andes while Valparaiso sources claim Deputy Verdugo was captured in Falca with 300000 in bank notes and 800000 in London drafts. Other letters say Balmaceda aboard Condell seeking San Francisco or Mexico, with ships pursued by congressional forces. News also describes Swiss President Welti and Swiss government structure. The article shifts to a brutal family murder and arson in a separate incident.
Berlin September 4 The removal of the embargo on American pork leads to congratulatory telegrams to Mr Phelps US minister to Germany. He reports to Secretary Blaine that the long effort to win this right has succeeded. After initial hesitation by Prussia Bavaria Saxony and two small principalities the decrees are signed and American pork may enter all Germany.
A grim report from Livingston Overton county tells of two Smith girls aged seventeen and eighteen found dead in their burning home after neighbors spotted a strange light. The blaze erupted Sunday night while the family attended church, leaving the sisters slain by unknown assailants.
Judge Walter Q. Gresham at the Palmer house said reports of a New York political conference are false. He noted an accidental, nonpolitical meeting with Col. Daniel Hoozer and others, and said he is out of politics altogether. Col. Canto is described as a capable Chilean officer supporting the congressional cause and likely to be promoted to general.

Jewett remains de facto chairman until the new committee is organized. If emergencies arise he may call the old committee. The state executive committee is effectively expired. Joseph E. McDonald’s seat remains vacant indefinitely.
A Saturday family reunion at Mrs. Selina Kinerk’s Bluffton road home in Pleasant township honored one of the township’s oldest settlers, Mrs. Hinerk, who arrived from London in 1831 and has resided there since 1837. Children and grandchildren listed with spouses, a grand dinner for 38 grandchildren, and a grand chair presented to Mrs. Kinerk marked the day as relatives gathered from multiple towns and counties to celebrate.
The Reformed Orphans Home northeast of the city marked its eighth anniversary with a public celebration. A line of conveyances carried attendees to the grounds where refreshments and student handiwork were on display. The First Regiment band played as two addresses were given by Rev. F Strasener and Rev. Loucks. The 57 acre grounds were well kept, with 25 rented acres, and 67 inmates including 23 girls and 44 boys.

The bans of John McNulty and May Ennis of this city were celebrated today at six in the Cathedral by Rev Father Delaney of St Patrick's church. A large group of friends attended the ceremony and the wedding party proceeded to a reception afterward.
The couple repaired to the home of the bride’s sister Mrs John Ward at Bass Street for a bridal breakfast. They left for Chicago at 8 o clock for part of their honeymoon and will reside at 247 South Webster Shaft in a new home prepared for them. The groom, McNulty, is associated with A Hattarsley Sons plumbing and the bride is praised for her charms.
Leota Elliott formerly of this city and Dr. J. W. Younge’s drug store, married farmer Sylvester Davis at Frankfort Indiana after a romance sparked by a Cincinnati advertisement. The couple traveled to Hillisburg post nuptials with Mrs. Davis' mother. Bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Elliott of 57 Batter Street.
A Boston salesman named Briggs claims he was wrongly arrested in 1881 at the Aveline house, his diamond stud and a lady’s gold watch taken as bait for a mayor’s court appearance, and he fled town. Fort Wayne Mayor Charles A. Zolinger and police records are examined, with the assertion no diamond or bait was ever found through police channels.
The seventeen year old daughter of Mrs Helen Fleming left for Terre Haute to enter the St Mary's of the Woods novitiate for a three year religious training. Afterward she may take vows or return to secular life. She is the daughter of the late William Fleming, noted as a leading financier.
A message to apprise friends of the death of Mrs Limra Histogs was received by the postmaster Monday morning from J N Rogers undertaker at Denver Ohio. It asks to notify the friends and asks for definite particulars while promising further response.
Professor W Forsythe art instructor at Hamilton art school on Hust Lewis street writes to correct a newspaper report claiming he would not return to Fort Wayne next season. He states he intends to continue teaching and expects a more successful winter term. The post is now at Vernon Indiana.
Mrs J H Coolman of Oovina near Los Angeles received a Kekey variety toxos plum from her husband at their western home. The fruit is described as mammoth in size with a circumference of about eleven inches, far larger than an ordinary pear, and was shown to the newspaper office.
