Oyster Bay October 22 Col Roosevelt arrives from Chicago and walks unassisted into Sagamore Hill. Physicians prescribe a week of absolute rest followed by a strict regimen to fit him for campaign rest, with several weeks required for full wound healing.
Theodore Roosevelt and his party reached Syosset from New York at 9 30 this morning four miles south of Oyster Bay to avoid crowds. The colonel walked to a waiting car unassisted, rode to Sagamore Hill wrapped in a heavy army overcoat, and declared he was feeling fine as he waved to townsfolk.
San Francisco Oct 22 Gov Thomas R Marshall of Indiana interrupted his campaign to select a site for the Indiana building on the Panama Pacific exposition grounds. He attended two addresses and reviewed troops before taking possession on the presidio military reservation. Indiana society members joined the ceremony as he prepared to depart for Oregon to continue his campaign.
Advices to the state department indicate the battle for possession of Vera Cruz will begin today or has already started. Representations have been made to Mexico City that American property be safeguarded, and the Madero government has assured the United States it will do so.

The senate Clapp committee, in executive session, issued two subpoenas for former Indiana Senator Albert J Beveridge linked to funds in the 1904 Indiana campaign. Witnesses were scheduled for tomorrow as the panel weighs further hearings before potential adjournment after the election. George W Perkins testified Beveridge returned 10000 dollars to the Republican National Committee.

He wrote shorthand since boyhood and used a right handed typewriter to finish letters before mailing them. He later went to the state house in Trenton for routine business.
