Report from Merker Colorado says a Western bank raid ended with a dozen alarms and three robbers killed. One suspect died after naming a fake alias. authorities believe Thomas McCarthy linked to prior bank jobs in Telleride and Dalta, Panasetadin.
Deputy Game Warden W H Clark and posse trapped robbers Charles Jones and Harris after a store to bank seizure. A volley from surrounding shooters killed Jones and Smith, mortally wounded Harris, and the shootout ended with the robbers killed in the act. An inquest found justifiable homicide and the money recovered.
Simih notes a smooth faced suspect about five seven who police believe belongs to the McCarthy gang blamed for daring train heists across Montara Oregon Washington and Colorado. The same group is linked to the 1889 First National Bank in this city theft of 21000 dollars. The McCarthys once lived in an Oregon ranching area and were feared as wealthy ranchmen. Doctor Kesler declared death instantaneous. She was 56 and survived by her husband, stepchildren, and other relatives. A six year old boy, George Henry Buettel, died at his home on Eliza Street after suffering diphtheria. His funeral is planned today. Earlier this month another child in the same family died from the disease. Tracy Racht, nine, of Kolrea B trees, died Sunday of diphtheria and was buried yesterday. Cecelia Buesitmnar, ten, of Cochran Street, died of brain trouble Saturday and was buried this morning.
A noon break in at the Lake Shore ticket office led to the loss of 250 dollars. A suspect identified as J. W. Miller from Kokomo was arrested by Officers Dickson and Greer. He faced detainment while investigations targeted his alleged plan to ply crime at the depot tomorrow.
Frieda Koenter a longtime domestic in Benjamin Frost’s home faces a possible charge of infanticide after the body of a newborn was found near the electric light works. Anna Brown confessed to being Frieda Kosater and said she threw the baby into a pool last Monday. She claims she could not support the child and was arrested after fleeing from the Frost residence. She is hospitalized and to be arraigned or preliminarily heard tomorrow. The case involves a sister in Wabash and lacks funds for an attorney.
