A gang robbed the Harrodsburg post office early today securing 30 dollars then tried to loot the Moyer bank. Police opened fire after the robbery and about forty shots were fired. The robbers escaped with a wounded companion and a posse with bloodhounds is in pursuit.
In Fremont Ohio on October 12 a gang blew the safe in the C Ingraham Co store at Curtice a small station west of the city. Citizens armed with guns pursued the robbers exchanging fire but the gang escaped without taking any loot.
Robbers who blew open the United States Graphite office safe in Saginaw forced the watchman to guide them to Harden’s home. Harden opened fire, wounding the plan’s protector in the hand. burglars escaped as villagers woke.
Daniel C Bennett twenty six years old was fatally stabbed in a late night quarrel over a woman. He is at St Marys hospital with slight hope of recovery. Brank J Klein is under arrest charged with the cutting.
John Black, a wealthy Gallata Valley resident worth about 50000 dollars, died after a morphine poisoning. His wife and a hired man are under arrest, charged with the crime after doctors raised suspicions following his illness and rapid death.
The viceroy of Canton received word from the Chinese minister in London that large quantities of dynamite firing and ammunition have been shipped to China, presumably for use by the reformers.
The pope today received in audience Archbishop Chapelle, envoy to the West Indies and more recently the apostolic delegate to the Philippines, in Rome on October 12.
Hilversum Netherlands October 11 Mr Kruger received many gifts and addresses marking the second anniversary of the declaration of war in South Africa. Among visitors were the burgomaster of Hilversum and other officials.
Booth Bend Indiana reports that Lewis Tallith, a local inmate serving a sentence in the state prison, is slated for release in May.
Braddie asserts in a letter mailed from the Pan American grounds on September 23 that Officer Cooper was killed after a burglary in which Lewis Jaquith and Jack Ragan aided him. Jaquith was convicted of murder at LaPorte circuit court after a brief deliberation, while Ragan died soon after at St Joseph's hospital. The letter, written in Buffalo, places the events in an alley on September 28, 1900. Jaquith’s wife later suffered insanity following the conviction.
Omaha police report Pat Crowe has offered to surrender and face trial in exchange for withdrawal of the $50,000 reward for the Edward A. Cudahy Jr kidnaping. Chief Donahue rejected the offer but proposed waiving the reward himself, noting Crowe is within 500 miles of Omaha and not with relatives.
New York reports say Cecil Rhodes and his associates view the £5000 cheque correspondence with Schnadhorst as a minor card. They warn that sharper disclosures may follow, potentially exposing financial ties between liberal officials and Kruger. Liberals suspect Rhodes offered shares in the Chartered Company to Schnadhorst to gain influence.
Rev. E. G. Shouse of the First Baptist Church in Kokomo declares he will stay at the pulpit, claiming divine guidance. He vows to resist removal efforts despite controversy and recent political ties as a former prohibition candidate for governor.
Mrs James Harter of Fort Wayne drove to visit relatives north of Lorane when her barge ran away near the destination, demolishing her first buggy. After a replacement buggy failed, her horse ran into a store, wrecking the second buggy and throwing the driver. Assisabnde aided, a physician attended, and Mrs Harter is recovering.
In Anderson Indiana on October 12 a social circle note reports Miss Minnie Sain’s engagement to Dr Eugene Metcalf, who now is said to have married another Chicago nurse. A pocket bible was found on West DeWard Street with ownership consistent with a waiver at Reverend Philip Wambigansa’s residence 458 Broadway.
Commandant Lotter, a Cape Colony rebel leader, was executed yesterday morning after being found guilty on eight charges including sedition and killings. His commando was captured south of Petersburg in September and he claimed Orange Free State citizenship, which was rejected. Two young farmers who joined the Boers twice were hanged at Vryburg, while several other death sentences were commuted to penal servitude.
Lord Kitchener reports to the war office from Pretoria that General French's columns have captured Commandant Scheeper. The field commander was ill and traveled by buggy. British pursuit in Cape Colony continues with Scheeper's commando active earlier.
A boy and two horses were gravely harmed after a swarm of thousands of bees attacked in an apiary incident. The boy lost sight in both eyes from the stings and may die. Both horses were killed by the swarm.

Richmond Indiana October 14 Colonel William T Dennis prominent Wayne County resident dies aged about 78 born 1816 in New York. He settled near Chester in 1846 introduced the Empire plow and sub soil center draft plow and helped found the Indiana State Fair and the Indiana State Board of Agriculture. He published the Indiana Farmer with D P Holloway and served as secretary of the slave board later as chief clerk in the US patent office agricultural division and as a fisheries commissioner. He helped bring the first steam fire engine to Richmond and remained active in city affairs and state agriculture product promotion. His daughter is Mrs Mary E Swain state WBC president.
London reports a curious impact of the South Africa campaign on British generals. General Buller faces harsh public judgment after a speech while another senior officer, a knight commander of the bath aged over sixty, plans marriage to a much younger Irish bride. The war office had hinted he should decline speaking engagements.
London Oct. 12 Cecil Rhodes is reportedly very ill with heart disease yet remains at a quiet hotel on a controlled diet. He attends long office hours at the British Chartered South African Company and faces criticism over the Schnadhorst letters while appearing mentally strained.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints held a large funeral for Lorenzo Snow in Salt Lake City. The service featured over 500 choir voices, simple rites, and floral decorations as the casket was carried by the twelve apostles to the tabernacle before a crowd of about 20,000. The procession then moved to Brigham City for burial in a ceremonial vault.
Public comfort stations or public waiting rooms are to be established in Richmond. Two or three rooms with reading apartments a social room and a lunch counter are proposed on Main street to serve all classes. The project aims to offer a welcoming space for young men and others during off hours as an experimental social initiative.

Bailey Hall, a noted eccentric farmer near Bluffton Indiana, hosted a large farewell reception before selling his farm and moving to Delaware County. He doubled invitations when surprised, hired a band and master of ceremonies, and served a country dinner. A photograph of the crowd and the farm was made for guests. Dr Parks White returned from Swansfeld after professional business.
Deputies Daseler and Ryan arrested Jacob Wyle and James Gaylord on Harrison street as they tried to dispose of a coop of stolen poultry headed for Whitley county. Gaylord admitted thefts in Allen and Whitley counties. Wile denies it. Sheriff Gallagher to return the suspects to Whitley county.
