Mivsxarvous Minnesota Nov 15 The general missionary committee of the Methodist Episcopal Church adjourned after a five day session here voting appropriations totaling 1 150 000 for mission work. The plan provides support for hundreds of native workers and missionaries carrying the gospel under the Methodist banner worldwide. The next anniversary will be held in Brooklyn New York.
Miss M. Miller a young school teacher in Columbia City Indiana was assaulted by a tramp on the way to her school. She fought back and screamed for help drawing a crowd who aided her. The assailant fled into the woods and a tramp named Warner was arrested. Citizens fear imminent lynching.
J C Drake Indiana Illinois and Iowa railway treasurer was assaulted in the Rookery building Chicago and robbed of thousands intended to pay railway employes. He was found semi conscious with a broken head and a toppled safe. Detectives work the case as robbers flee with $20000 in pay envelopes.
A brutal crime near Alliance Ohio ends with the murder of Birdie Baugh a Mount Union student by Curt Davidson a farm hand. Davidson fights suicide and dies after being found with his throat cut. He denies knowledge of the crime and awaits a hearing in Canton.
Citizens and the city filed suit seeking an injunction to stop the gas supplier from cutting off service after warning of a 40 percent price advance. Judge Reynolds granted the injunction, sustaining the request.
Lonvoy November 15 A letter by Swedish explorer Bjerling found in a Carey Island cave details the Ripple stranding in August 1892 and the party surviving in boats toward Smith Sound then Carey Island. Only twenty days provisions remained and a seaman died. Aurora crew found a body they believe is the sailor. The captain doubts the boats could have escaped heavy ice destruction.
The Ex aminer reports William W. Fairbanks a Point Arena photographer who vanished Oct 15 after marrying Miss Addie O Connor from Ligonier Indiana. He returns to San Francisco from Shreveport with amnesia about the past sixteen months and says he recalls nothing of the marriage or his bride. He had been in Portland and Sacramento and fell ill with fever and nervous prostration in Shreveport.
James Grassman Wanita sues Mancie city for 10000 dollars alleging improper treatment as a suspected smallpox case during a recent epidemic. He says he was confined 21 days in a guard house box car and moved to a pest house, suffering injury and business damage amid alleged misstatements by officials. State Senator Q N Cranor represents Grassman.
Cedar Rapids Iowa Nov 15 Secretary C C Smith of the Young Men's Christian Association received a letter from William McMulloch of Toronto secretary of the executive committee of the association of general secretaries and physical directors of North America announcing that the next international gathering will be held in Cedar Rapids next May.
In Warra Warra Washington on November 15 reports say the Milton bank robbers are surrounded by a posse at makeep camp fifteen miles west of Milton. Sheriff Furnish with extra men travels from Pendleton to Milton by special train. Also noted is the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs James McDonald of Chicago. Mrs McDonald visiting her parents Mr and Mrs George DeWald.
A South Wayne man, William Krubs, 27, ill with typhoid fever, attacked his wife in delirium after midnight while his brother slept nearby. He fled into darkness and was missing by morning. Sheriff and volunteers scoured woods while relatives feared the worst. no trace found yet.
The fever fugitive William Kruhe, escaping his sick bed in night clothes, was found dead in the St Marys river near the High Banks. Search parties, aided by neighbors, located the body about four feet deep with ice along the edge. The deceased had fled from home toward Home avenue and the river, then fell from a riverbank and drowned after becoming exhausted. The remains were then brought to his late home by Peter Hensel.
Coroner Harrod was summoned and viewed the remains after a large number of searchers aided the effort. He will hold the inquest to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
J R Weaver a waiter at the Fort Wayne club faced Mayor Zollinger after Prosecuting Attorney Colerick questioned him about liquor sales at the club. The state seeks action against Clark Clifford for selling liquor without a license as Weaver testified the club dispensed drinks to clerks via orders from members and guests. Also reported: large corn named Bloody Butcher grown by Conductor Sylvester McMahon in Lake township, ears over fourteen inches and 826 grains. ten acres expected to yield about forty five bushels per acre.
Hoxtixotox Indiana November 16 Sheriff Samuel Wintrode sues John Renbarger for 10000 damages claiming his remark that the county jail is worse than Libby Prison implies starvation vermin and squalor and damages the sheriff s reputation Renbarger has a son jailed in the county jail and has criticized its conditions.
Fort Wayne schools receive recognition in the Liberal Arts Department at Indiana's World’s Fair. St Augustine Cathedral school wins for class work and science, St Augustine academy cited for algebra philosophy and history, Fort Wayne diocese reports printed work, and Indiana School for Feeble Minded Youths notes pupil projects in Fort Wayne. Nov 16. Charles S Nebb brakeman killed near Fort Wayne as seventeen freight cars derailed after a draw bar dropped from the following tender.
In Lake township Michael O Grady pleads guilty to assault and battery against his father Daniel and is bound to keep the peace, paying 40 dollars in costs and fines and planning to leave for Chicago. Nearby a riot at a farm home social gathering leads to warrants for nine arrests, with Henry McAfee and B Gaskell already in custody.
Thos Mackin, valued at about four million in real estate and contracting, died in Curiaco at sixty four. A longtime Chicago figure and former city council member, he arrived in 1847 as a poor boy and later left a fortune to a young widow. His marriage to a New Orleans woman occurred six months before his death.
