Jurors found floggings and indignities inflicted by his bands or under his directive. three sailors said to have died from such treatment. Grindle had previously faced trials for ill treating refugees aboard the Old Colony.
The November 1 public debt statement from Washington lists an October reduction of 3,388,139 in totals. Telegrams claim Serbia accepted a two month armistice agreed by Turkey, while Belgrade dispatches say the Porte would accept any length but seeks peace terms in advance. Telegrams from Constantinople say the reply is unknown but likely favorable. An extraordinary cabinet meeting and Turkish troops reported in Belgrade. Belgrade dispatches claim a two month armistice with possible renewal for six weeks. Belgrade officials prepare to send a flag of truce to Abdul Keris to confirm word of an armistice.

A robbery at Pressler and Richey hardware in Cherubusco near Fort Wayne yielded about $2000 in cash and valuables after a safe was blown. Thieves escaped with stock including revolvers and cutlery while officers pursue leads. An accompanying list chronicles numerous October deaths in the city, detailing ages and causes from pneumonia to old age.
