Judge Eichhorn and other speakers urged rewriting Indiana’s constitution at a Fort Wayne Citizens meeting in the courthouse assembly room. Theodore F Thieme condemned liquor as a political menace and called for prohibition to break its hold on government.
Fort Wayne bankers urge careful examination of Indian head five dollar bills after several counterfeit notes appeared at local banks in the last two days. The bills are slightly blurred and may have circulated before airing. Officials believe the forgery originated locally and was done by an expert engraver, bearing the check letter Dp.
Special to The Sentinel Rome City Ind May 20 three cottages and an auto shed on the mainland were burned after a gasoline stove explosion in L D Tale of Decatur s cottage. The doomed cottages belonged to Barney Neibers Dr C F L Clark and J D Hale all of Decatur The auto shed was Fred Moore s of Albion Hale was burned while attempting to fight the fire after lighting the stove and leaving momentarily High winds spread the blaze and most contents were lost.
W E Erwin and his daughter Miss Martha Erwin of Bourbon were patients at the Lutheran hospital. Mr Erwin underwent an appendicitis operation and his daughter was operated on for hernia Friday. both are reported doing well. Mr Erwin is a cousin to FE Maxwell of the Pennsylvania coal.
County Superintendent D C McCombs released the full list of 195 eighth grade graduates who will receive diplomas at the New Palace theater on June 12. The roster includes graduates from Adams township Wayne Cedar Creek Lafayette Springfield Ipio and other districts with names such as Clarence See, Bernice Krantz, Marie Simmers, Arthur Bogers, Harold Kryder, Grace Ward Bernet, Paul McCormick, Lorin Andrews, Delphia Beam and Ralph Palmer. The announcement confirms the ceremony details and participant names for this year’s commencement.
Public sentiment in Van Wert Ohio is almost unanimous in approval of the jury verdict acquitting Miss Lulu Wilson of manslaughter in the March 26 killing of Levi X Jacobs. The jury returned the verdict at 1 a.m. after less than six hours deliberation, reportedly on eight ballots.
A two day Memorial Day observance is planned for May 30 and 31. On Sunday at 2 30 p m the Majestic Theater will host patriotic services with Rev C Claud Travis. Monday memorial activities include cemetery visits, grave decorations, and a Lawton park monument service by the Woman's Relief Corps with Rev H C Hadley delivering the address.
A tornado hit Arcola nine miles west of Fort Wayne Friday morning at 7:15, damaging the west end of town. The Farmers Equity Exchange grain elevator was lifted off its foundation and hurled across railroad tracks. Buildings, orchards, and power lines suffered, but no injuries were reported. damage ran into thousands. The storm’s path extended north to Everett lake.
One hundred and ninety five graduates will receive diplomas at the New Palace theater June 12. Names will be announced after papers are graded by D C McComb. New Haven held nine graduates at city hall. Monroeville high school conferred diplomas to fourteen graduates with class address by S K Guinyard. Fourteen nursing graduates from Hope and Lutheran hospitals traveled to Indianapolis to take the state examination for licensed nurses. Eight Hope and six Lutheran graduates will sit the exam Wednesday and Thursday in the state building. the remaining four will take the fall test. Hope grads include Mabel Pitman Edith Neidig Neola Moyer Lula Wolfrom Ruth Masterson Margaret Nash Laura Kreigh and Mary Leiter. Lutheran grads are Louise M. Mohr Ruth E. Mutchler Katherine Schmidt Ida Mf Lichtsinn Emma D. Schneider and Alma E. Finke.
In Coesse Indiana May 21 sparks from a Pennsylvania railroad locomotive are believed to have ignited a fire that destroyed the building owned by Mrs Mary Reeve housing the post office a general store and living quarters. Loss estimated at 3150 with partial insurance coverage. Post office loss about 700 and store 800 insured for 500. Reece owner resident’s loss about 350.
Kendallville Ind May 24 Mrs Mattie Harding 50 wife of August Harding died at the family home near Center Chapel four miles northwest of the city after a lingering illness Cancer was the cause of death She was the mother of four teen children.
Leonard Bobay of Washington township, who vanished from Fort Wayne April 16 after withdrawing 1400 from local banks, was found alive at the John Dawkins farm near New Haven. He appeared disoriented and said he had traveled there after leaving Fort Wayne Friday afternoon.
The Catholic Benevolent League of Indiana re elected all state officers at its closing session. The next annual meeting will be in Hammond on the third Tuesday in May 1916. Officers include Michael Kinder president and Henry J. Nichter guided the reunion. Delegates departed Wednesday morning.
