A Norway native who came to the U S with his parents at age ten, he studied at Miami University in Oxford and Bellevue Medical College in New York. He practiced in Lisbon and Swan before moving to Kendallville in 1861 and served as president of the North Eastern Indians Medical Society. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Presbyterian Church. business houses closed in his honor. He leaves a wife and five children.

German youth murders rejected suitor in Texas county
In Cypress Texas last night T Weiss a 23 or 24 year old German employed by farmer Gerloff attempted murder then suicide after Miss Misa Gerloff rejected his marriage proposal. He battered her with an iron, and then shot and cut himself before seeking aid. Miss Gerloff survived and is expected to recover. Weiss is gravely wounded. The couple lived three and a half miles east of Cypress in Harrison County with the Gerloffs away in Houston.
