New Gospel Fragments May Recast Early Christian History

The New York Journal reports the discovery of two leaves in Coptic from the lost Gospel of the Egyptians. German scholars Kar the fragments date to the 4th–5th century and quote eye witness accounts of Peter James and John, including the Garden of Gethsemane and the resurrection. The find could greatly illuminate early Christology and the harmony with canonical Gospels.

Lincoln an Inventor in Early Patent Case

In the patent office files a case shows Abraham Lincoln, long before his presidency, as an inventor. On March 10, 1849 he filed a patent petition for an improved method of adding buoyant chambers to vessels to reduce draft in shallow waters. Attorney Z C Robbins assisted. Lincoln spoke with Robbins at Miss Jenney’s boarding house in 1849. The petition noted a $30 gold payment and was sworn before justice John L. Smith. The idea aimed to contract buoyant chambers for compact storage and secure them when not needed. Robbins recalls Lincoln saying he hoped the device would aid steamboats in damp conditions. Lincoln told him he believed the invention patentable but had limited capital and shifted focus to politics.
