They urged self-help, warned of lynch law, and called for action against Tillman’s administration. Separately, Jesse France shot Henry Mathena in a Fairfield avenue room over a prank gone wrong. France, claiming accidental discharge, was arrested after Mathena lay dying. the case prompted a police and prosecutor inquiry.
A cyclone destroyed the town of Cisco Texas last night. Seven people are dead and more than twenty feared killed as telegraph wires are down and communication is blocked. In Missouri, a cyclone struck Decatur early this morning between 3 and 4 o clock.
Mrs Julia Brooks wife of Henry Brooks Daily Staatz Zeitung office died at 4 am Wednesday at 49 W Jefferson St after years of lung trouble. Born in Germany March 25 1846 she was 47. Immigrated 1865 then to this city 1866 married January 4 1870 leaving a widower and a dead child. Funeral Friday at 2 30 from home Rev Hirshberg officiating. She was a member of Abduth Yeshalom congregation.
