In Johnstown Pennsylvania rescuers crawled through a mile long mud filled tunnel to reach seven entombed miners. They sent food and received tapping signals showing life as ten pumps emptied the flooded mine at about two thousand gallons per minute. Medics and a temporary hospital awaited the rescued men at the mine mouth.
Johnstown April 30 report from the rescuing party reaching the Berwind-White mine at Foust confirms that seven imprisoned workers are still alive. Officials and miners await full rescue as conditions underground are assessed and efforts continue to free them safely.
St Petersburg April 30 The lower house passed the recruiting bill by 220 to 194 votes. The chamber also backed reducing next year's call to colors and abolishing the practice of providing soldier servants for officers and using troops for police purposes.

The funeral of Mme Baradina, a noted revolutionary, drew much interest as details emerged of her husband M Baradina betraying terrorists. She had been imprisoned in Kiev, released in 1905 to go abroad, and later learned of her husband’s betrayal before taking poison to avoid capture. Her body was brought to St Petersburg for burial beneath crimson wreaths.
Mrs Kate Sheppe admitted in Portsmouth Ohio that her husband Frank Sheppe a brick worker killed Town Marshal Arthur Rutter in New Boston on Saturday night motive not explained. She was taken in custody.
Early today in Guatemala City a dynamite blast near President Estrada Cabrera’s carriage killed the horses and injured General Jose Mario Orellana, the chief of staff, while the president was unharmed. The attack prompted officials to pledge swift investigation and public order remained intact.
New Orleans April 30 Consul General Novella of Guatemala received a cablegram detailing an attempt to assassinate the president. The report notes immediate concern and government notification as authorities review the incident.
President Roosevelt urged clemency for John William January of Missouri who was convicted for robbing a post office in Oklahoma and served most of a five year Leavenworth sentence before escaping. He was recaptured in Kansas City and returned to prison after nine years of liberty. Petitions for his pardon have been received.
Time of his rearrest is noted. He married and has a child. President Roosevelt's union followed a visit by Senator Warner of Missouri to the White House with J M Kennedy. Warner presented a typewritten synopsis of petitions signed by 2500 bankers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers and judges. Leavenworth Kansas April 30 Major W R McCloughry warden of the federal penitentiary will not communicate with William January or Anderson until official news is received from Washington. By noon today Major McCloughry had not received any notification.
Frank Murray, reported as drunk in the streets late at night, faced charges for selling illicit goods. The court considered leniency after reviewing the circumstances and Murray’s behavior.
New York April 30 Jacob Frank an agent for New York Life Insurance Company was arrested on forgery in connection with the companys directors election. He allegedly forged policy holders signatures on ballots including Erhard Gerhard. About 150 cases are involved. Frank claims permission from some signers and says he acted without company approval and against instructions.
Within Springfield township Allen county there are nineteen residents who have surpassed eighty years. The group totals about 1 700 years, headed by 98 year old Benjamin True. Others exceed ninety, including Jacob Plummer 94 and Amherst Miller 93. All have long resided in the township, many virtually all their lives, a record the township takes pride in.
Twelve men are chosen to hear evidence in the trial of a man accused of killing Augsberger. The panel, selected from local residents, will hear testimony and determine the defendant's guilt or innocence in the high profile case.

About twenty five female workers at the General Electric works on Montgomery street refused to work Saturday afternoon as warm weather approached. The manager called each to the office, warned them their conduct was unprofessional, and promised they could return if the action was not repeated.
Passengers arriving from La Guayara Venezuela on the steamer Maracaibo say President Castro is seriously ill again. Huntington officers raided a Roanoke blind tiger run by Carlos Regedanz, seizing a jug and several bottles of contraband liquor. Regedanz posted $500 bond, facing a likely severe penalty if convicted. He operates a tavern selling temperance drinks as cover. Henry C. Roehner, pastor of a defferent church, declined a call to his church.
Galena Newfoundland and Labrador April 27. The seventeenth annual birthday tribute to General Grant included a ceremony at Grant Park and the laying of the Carnegie-Foyt library cornerstone valued at $50,000. Senator Albert J. Beveridge spoke on state rights versus nationality and praised President Roosevelt amid a discussion of current issues like railway regulation and child labor.
Toledo April 30 George H Ketcham has been asked by Louis Winans of England to drive his best entry in the July 12 Baden Germany international championship races. The contest will determine the European champion and A C Pennock, formerly of Cleveland and now Winans trainer, will drive one entry. Ketcham will accept if he can arrange to get away.
