Frightful disaster as locomotive boiler ruptures in railroad yards at San Antonio, causing dead casualties. Authorities report a catastrophic blast with extensive damage to equipment and injuries to workers. The incident prompts swift emergency response and investigations into boiler safety.
Twenty five men are dead and many injured after a locomotive boiler exploded in the Duval Street yard of the Southern Pacific shop complex in San Antonio. Rescue teams, army hospital corps, and police mobilized as the round house and copper shops were wrecked. many victims are identified as strike breakers from northern and western states.
The condition of Louis Volz stabbed in a fight at the Metropolitan alleys Saturday is much improved today with no wound infection and a full recovery expected.
Hon James Rudolph Garfield former secretary of the interior and Roosevelt cabinet member will address a Roosevelt meeting at the Fort Wayne court house assembly room Friday evening. He heads the drive to secure the Republican nomination for Roosevelt in the Twelfth district. Louis N Jitman announced the event and reported confidence Roosevelt delegates will be elected.
H Kenneth Wasson president of H P Wasson & Co. a leading Indianapolis department store owner, was found dead in his bed at his home from heart disease. He was unmarried and lived with his mother. Plans for a new 60 000 bridge on Columbus Street are on file with the county auditor with awards set for March 28. Submissions from A L Wyn Grosvenor and George Dapp and the Nation Wal Bridge Co of Indianapolis noted.
In Cleveland the joint conference of operators and miners opens tomorrow over the bituminous coal wage dispute. Officials say a clear answer on peace or war may emerge by the first morning session, with a possible thirty day delay before final action. The 306,000 miners nationwide will watch the outcome and voting will decide representation.
New York reports a subsidence of the anthracite strike today easing fear among consumers and reducing demand for hard coal. Both sides are said ready to confer on reasonable propositions with hopes for a short suspension if needed. Operators and miners officials reportedly open to meeting halfway as word of a possible wider strike fades. Local hotels hospitals and transit agencies still stock coal for a prolonged stoppage.
Delegates arrive as Indiana Democrats gather at the Hotel Indiana for the state convention. Samuel M. Ralston of Lebanon is expected to be nominated for governor while Gov. Marshall is pledged for the presidential bid. Lieutenant governor candidates number six with several names in contention. Delegates will elect national convention delegates Thursday at 9 AM with Gov. Marshall presiding and Sen. John W. Kern to serve as permanent chairman.

A shooting incident burned four business locations in Dugger, including the Trinkle jewelry store and Smith shooting gallery, totaling around 8000 in damage.

Rear Admiral Georges Wallace Melville USN retired died at his home in Philadelphia aged about seventy-two. He directed the Bureau of Steam Engineering for sixteen years and served on the Jeannette and Greely Arctic relief expeditions. He led honorary ties with University of Pennsylvania Harvard Columbia Georgetown Stevens and presided over the American Academy of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Naval Engineers. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery Philadelphia on Wednesday.
A severe cyclonic storm struck southern Illinois with telegraph and telephone lines crippled. Vandalia railroad officials request a special train to move linemen to Greenville as Western Union and Postal linemen are dispatched from St Louis. Wire service lines between Greenville and Stubblefield are down.
Indianapolis reports a canoe accident on White River near Riverside Park where 17 year old Shafter drowned yesterday. 20 year old companion Guy Graham swam ashore. authorities cite the youths’ inexperience with canoes as the likely cause.
A large posse of detectives and volunteers closed in on the Squirrel Spur stronghold of Sidlnia Allen and his gang in the Blue Ridge, while reports say the fugitives may have scattered into nearby towns. State militia leaders push for 200 men to seal the mountains and broadcast fugitive descriptions to neighboring counties as Mrs Sidna Allen speaks to reporters.
Ferdinand Meier 47 died in Germany after heart trouble, following resignation from Fort Wayne Parks Board. Born in Germany November 2, 187? he arrived in America 1887, became blacksmith then founder of Meier Weise Construction at 445 Willace St. He served Seventh Ward and was succeeded by Prof Louis Darn of Concordia.
A passenger train on the Indianapolis and Louisville line struck a surrey near Knellaville at a crossing early today killing five aboard. The victims including Martin Worden and four others spent the previous evening at a Bloominton theatre and were en route to Spencer where they worked as lawyers. One body lay beside the engine, others were scattered along the track in the wreckage. The names listed include Worden of Knellaville Ry Williams Farm er Spencer and Rods Spencer.
