Homestead claims survive military service under certain conditions
A Duluth report states Washington land officials ruled that a man who has started a homestead, paid fees and lived there about a year, and then serves four years in the army or navy may still obtain title if his family remains on the land. Enlistment during the Spanish American War or Philippines conflict is allowed if annual one month furloughs are taken. Court costs for disputes like Burns v M P run high. swords and dress breeches add to expenses.
