Pupils Enjoy Chalk Talk by News Cartoonist at Jefferson School

Jefferson school pupils gathered in the assembly at 2 45 Friday afternoon for an entertaining program by B J Griswold of the News who gave an excellent chalk talk on subjects of interest to children. Marie Spiegel rendered piano solos and departmental pupils sang two songs closing with America as Griswold colored the flag. Principal F W Miles and staff organized the event to honor the pupils for their past participation in school entertainments.

Dr Denslow Lewis and Dr Emil Reich argue women should have equal wooing rights as men. They contend the female selects mates in nature and in humanity the male should not monopolize courtship. Eastbound Pennsylvania train sets new speed record

A special train of engine two coaches and a Pullman car ran 279 miles eastbound on the Western division in 272 minutes including water and fuel stops, averaging 68 mph overall. Dr J B Murphy of Chicago rode to Pittsburg to see a patient. Chicago to Fort Wayne was 189 miles in four hours.

Dornte Apprentice Recovers From Injuries at Pa Shop

Edwin G. Dornte, apprentice at a Pennsylvania machine shop, is improving after a driver wheel fell on him two or three weeks ago. His thigh wound is healing and the broken leg is mending. He remains at St. Joseph hospital, son of A. F. H. Dornte of the planing mills.

Hand Injury in Flue Shop Accident

F X Christman suffered a severe laceration to his right hand while at work in the flue shop on Wednesday in Pennsylvania. The cut between the thumb and finger was painful and will disable him for some time.

Hertwig suffered painful foot injuries after a stream hammer incident at the Blacksmith shop. He will be off duty for a week or two due to crushed toes and bruises.

The Nickel Plate announces master mechanic George James will retire effective July 1. Based at Stony Island, he has led the mechanical department for over twenty years and his resignation surprises employees. No reason given. successor not yet named.

Death of Old Operator McEvoy in Kalamazoo

James H. McEvoy longtime central states telegraph operator and train dispatcher dies in Kalamazoo after a second stroke. Born in Sarnia Ontario he worked for Michigan Central Wabash and G R I before retiring as Kalamazoo operator. Survived by wife Mary Callahan and children Dr James B McEvoy John C McEvoy Francis G McEvoy May Madeleine and Mrs Roy Bell. Funeral held Monday. sons Dr J B McEvoy and J C McEvoy travel for the rites.

Warrants Issued for Nickel Plate Payroll Frauds

Chicago authorities issued warrants for two Nickel Plate clerks over months long payroll padding.
