Katharine Easton travels from New York to Amsterdam with Marie and meets Marie's Dutch nieces. A dense fog traps Katharine on a dike, she falls into water, wanders barefoot in wet clothes, and is found by Juffrouw Donk who shelters her. After a night of care and a wardrobe swap, Katharine is returned safely to Marie and joined by her family, leaving the colonel to purchase Dutch garments as mementos.
