Electrical storm drenched Dubuque with two inches of rain in two hours and winds up to forty miles per hour. Bridges washed away, tracks wrecked, and cattle drowned as residents flooded cellars and fled to hills. County damage exceeds $100000 with extensive railroad and road washouts.
A. E. Coe, 55, shoots father in law Nathaniel Augline, then Adrian Augline, wounds another, kills his wife, and dies by suicide at a farm near Yates Centre Kansas. In Galveston Annie Parner, daughter of Judge Turner, shoots herself, dies. her father and Professor Geovis kill each other amid mystery. father withholds comment.
At Notre Dame commencement Bishop Spalding urged a higher civilization. He contended women deserve equality with men and higher education plus equal pay. He also predicted the saloon would eventually disappear. The audience, including Bishop Moore and hundreds of clergy and students, applauded.
In Ark and Snonton Ohio on June 27 the first district renominated W H Cate recently unseated in the house while T C McRae, current third district representative, was renominated. In Snonton thirty eight ballots at the twelfth district Republican convention produced Grosvenor 77, Thomas 71, Enochs 40 with no decision and a platform backing President Harrison, liberal pensions and home rule.
Reports from North Bud harbor indicate urgent naval activity with ships being victualled and ammunition moving from Sig magazines to the yard. Engineers and torpedo corps marshal the harbor channel while preparations suggest important orders arriving by Monday or today.

Reported incident near New Albany says Crawford county white caps attacked Willis Strain and his wife, beating him until unconscious and bloodied, tarred and feathered the woman, both men and wife fled the county within two days, amid past quarrels and a rumored trial. The attack followed a visit to the sehood louse, and the couple were once respected for religious meetings.
News from San Antonio dated June 28 describes a near Village Springs duel between farmers Possey and Simmons in which Simmons was mortally wounded while Possey escaped. A Kansas City Star editor W R Nelson objects to a barber Louis Finkelstein and his parrot. The parrot criticised Nelson shouting get his hair cut and soak his head. Finkelstein and the bird were arrested for nuisance and appeared before Justice Wheeler. The case continued until Monday.
In superior court Judge Chapin awarded the plaintiff 596.66 in Lockwood administrator v Muhn and ordered mortgage foreclosure. Mary Sturgeon seeks divorce from James R Sturgeon with a temporary restraining order on property until July 10 when expenses will be heard. Caroline Benard and Joseph Rosse sue Sebastian Benard et al for partition of real estate. Mary Sturgeon, through Marshall McNagney, seeks divorce alleging adultery and cruelty with custody of daughter Alto, five, and 5000 alimony. couple married May 26, 1883, separated June 23, 1890.
The Fort Wayne Water Power Company finds the present water wheel system at the power station a failure and has ordered its removal. A final effort to use the power apparatus may involve ordering new wheels. if unsatisfactory, the entire project could be abandoned. Over $40,000 has been spent on reservoir construction and machinery, with canal feeder deepened but the desired result not yet achieved.
