Farmers Institute opens with President Brooks address

The annual farmers institute met in the city hall last Friday with about 200 attendees. President A W Brooks urged farmers to study farming as a science to ease burdens and improve production, noting the institute’s aim to elevate farming and share practical knowledge through meetings and publications. Senator Ellison attended and introduced a butter adulteration bill in the state senate.

Sudden Death Ends Fort Wayne Prominent Citizen

Alexander C. Huestis veteran wholesale grocer and scholar dies at home after heart trouble. Born 1819 in Perry New York, he held academic posts in New York Ohio and Indiana before entering business in Fort Wayne. He authored a Shakespeare concordance and worked on it to the end with a famed studied intellect and kind nature. Funeral held Saturday from his residence at 10 o'clock. Other obituaries note deaths of Mrs Elia Gunder Frances Spanley infant and several local residents with short memorials.
