Road expert urges state to send lecturer to Fort Wayne
Allen county visitors who heard M. O. Eldredge speak at Columbia City Thursday pressed the agriculture department to send a lecturer to Fort Wayne. Postmaster Hanna and George H. Loesch will seek government direction to supervise gravel and stone road construction in Allen county for local officials. The 105-strong Allen county group toured Whitley county before departing. Eldredge praised Indiana for gravel roads but urged better maintenance noting roads affect education and prosperity. He cited that one third of Indiana roads are graveled and land value averages higher, contrasting with poorer states. He outlined road building basics emphasizing hard, dry surfaces and good drainage as essential.
