Dr Christian B Stemen Celebrates 50 Years as Elder
Dr Christian B Stemen aged seventy nine marks the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination as an elder in the Methodist Episcopal church on August 28. Licensed in 1861 as a United Brethren local preacher, he preached many sermons for which he received no pay and has served in five Methodist Episcopal churches while continuing medicine and surgery.

Rural Schools Prepare for September Openings in Allen County

Hiser Road House Destroyed by Fire
The Hiser road house, three miles north of the city on Goshen road, burned shortly after midnight Tuesday, causing about 4000 in losses. The structure was insured for roughly half its value and only part of the property was occupied at the time. Clifford South spotted the blaze from his window and alerted firefighters. Captain John Stalhut’s auto chemical team arrived too late to save the building. The origin remains unknown though a crossed wiring theory emerged.
