Two Men Seriously Injured in Pole Raising Accident

A republican pole raising near East Wayne and Francis streets ended with a heavy pole crashing down. David Baird, 27, suffered spinal injuries and was taken to Shunk's. George W. Edwards, 45, fractured a leg and possibly amputated. Both were moved to hospital. doctors warn Baird may recover while Edwards faces grave injuries.

Burglary at Dr Virgil’s Home On Tarrigon Street

A Friday night break in at Dr T Virgil’s residence on Tarrigon tenet woke the couple as burglars entered through a window sash and zipper noting a break in. Thieves escaped with pants and a dress and a few small items while watches and jewelry remained untouched. Dr Virgil identified one intruder and another theft attempt was reported at nearby homes on Baker Street and the corner of Merrison and Wayne streets.

East End Scandal Leads to Arrest in Indianapolis

Lillis Campbell, a under seventeen resident of the east end, filed an affidavit in Justice Ryan's court charging August Kausewich with batterday. The case was kept from reporters until the suspect could be located, then Kausewich was arrested in Indianapolis and brought back to the city.

Man Attempts Suicide and Train Incident Report

Monday evening Patrick Doyle a 40 year old carpenter of 192 Montgomery street attempted to hang himself with a clothes line in his second story room. He was cut down and later placed in custody overnight at the station house. Doyle had been heavy drinking after helping erect a Republican pole in the eighth ward. Wednesday a Wabash freight near Lafayette toppled over a bridge after a hog blacked a car causing track damage and a river plunge. several hours were needed to recover the wreck and restore rail service on the TW and W lines.
