Kentuckians denounce Carlisle arguing his former record on silver is contrasted unfavorably with his current stance. The mild confrontation centers on past actions and present positions, reflecting regional disagreement within the party.
A mass meeting in Lexington Kentucky on April 18 gathered free silver advocates to organize a bimetallic club. Speakers denounced Secretary Carlisle and President Cleveland over demonetization of silver, debating past and current financial policy while discussing the club’s formation.
Sixty members of the tower house signed a call for a free silver caucus in Austin on Monday night. An address is expected urging Texas silver Democrats to send delegates to a state convention in Fort Worth in June or July to perfect a thorough free coinage of silver at 16 to 1.
Congressman Josiah Patterson of Tennessee addressed hundreds of Baltimore merchants and manufacturers urging sound money and southern western unity. He called for Lattimore to send delegates to the Memphis convention and noted promises of high level attendance, with Maryland delegate John K Cowen and M M A president William T. Dillon also speaking.
Mint Director Preston has ordered the removal to the San Francisco mint of 309.40 of world bullion and about 200,000 of unrefined silver from the Carson City Nevada mint. This extends the dismantling of the Carson City facility, which has seen limited use. Government bullion expert Mr. Mason will stay several weeks at Carson City and then examine the San Francisco mint.
In Washington April 18 Dr. Guzman the Nicaraguan minister said his country does not intend to annul the contract with the Maritime company for the Nicaragua canal. He insisted Nicaragua wants the canal built and by Americans, noting the contract runs for years and extensions can be granted if unfinished. He added Nicaragua would grant a similar concession to the United States if needed.
The Blackstone Massachusetts cotton thread spinners union voted to stay out of the mill. They asked to remain out Friday as Patriots Day. The superintendent refused. The action followed a vote by the New England spinners union. The Boston decision influenced the move.
Receiver McNulta asked Judge Showalter for authority to borrow 159000 and renew a 35000 note to fund whisky trust operations. He states 15000 a day is needed for the next sixty days as receipts barely cover production costs. The plan envisions 1100000 in working capital from new bonds, with installments partly paid. Directors meet Saturday in Chicago to elect officers.

In Philadelphia on April 18 Sevillacho held & Sons woolen manufacturers of Manayunk assigned to Joseph de F Junkin the Economy mills and 23 other parcels in Manayunk Roxborough and nearby suburbs. The deed by Sevill Schofield and wife Sevill Schofield Jr and J Dobson Schofield discloses assets and liabilities unknown. About 50 of 2000 mill workers struck Tuesday demanding a 1b percent wage increase which was denied.
Grand Forks reports the North Dakota Milling Association made an assignment after an attachment by Mandan Roller Mill Company for 100000. About 700 members are affected, with 3400.0% distribution noted. The firm owns eleven mills and operates in Minnesota and two others. All state mills are said to be attached and closed as management trouble drives the action.
In Raleigh on April 18 the fusionist penitentiary board demanded possession of the prison from the democrats who refused.
