Mayor Oakley Disapproves Water Works Levy in Fort Wayne Address
The Fort Wayne Common Council met with full attendance except Councilman Sommers. Mayor Oakley read a detailed address disapproving the 10 cents per $100 tax levy for waterworks while approving other measures, arguing the council overstepped by including waterworks spending not in the comptroller’s estimates. He proposed a $20,000 water works appropriation from surplus funds and warned the overall levy would be 95 cents for city purposes, 1.10 including the school levy. The session also handled decor, police staffing for the centennial, and other budget items with debates on legality and transparency lingering over the Lakeside school funding.
