Adeut. Luther Mertz, who left Battery D over a year ago, has arrived at Newport News and is now connected with Baking Company 218 of the quartermaster corps. It is expected he will receive his discharge soon and return to Fort Wayne.
G A Haswell, absent two years, returns home after seventeen months at Vancouver Barracks Washington. Charles Kinney arrives from overseas in Boston and goes to Camp Devens. Corporal Frederick R Fogle wounded in action and now at hospital in Carlisle Pennsylvania. Allyn Lyon Bricker back on furlough in Hicksville after a year on the eastern seaboard. Emil Vane, Warsaw native, arrives from France after service with Company H and Battery D 137th field artillery. Clifford Goshert returns from two years in the United States navy. Frank Guy of Mrs Esther Guy arrives after two years away, much of it with signal corps in France.
Near By Flag Notes COLIMBIA city Indi June arland Dowell son of Warren Dowell arrived at Camp Bherwnan Chillicothe yesterday. He spent about a year in the Panama canal zone. Capt Luther Mertz writes of local friends met during travels in France on May 23 on his way.
The cafeteria at M C A adds serving capacity for special dinners and luncheons. It seats 146, with food service possible in other parts of the building for large occasions. Plans call for top equipment and a modern kitchen managed by a skilled cafeteria manager. Open to the public and members, it is expected to become a popular eating place.
