Soldier Promoted After Army Transport Duty

Sergeant Wheeler, former non-commissioned officer of Company E, 156th Infantry, is commissioned as second lieutenant after passing final exams at Stanley, Laon Springs, Tex. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H Wheeler of 1035 Columbia avenue and takes charge of transport for the 156th Infantry. He served nine months on the Mexican border and awaits orders to ready transportation for the regiment’s journey.

Evans Enlists in Navy Amid Transport City News

J E Evans of Evans and Son brokerage enlisted in the navy and will report June 10 to Chicago for active training at the Great Lakes station in the radio department. Robert J Moore and Elmer Snyder, both of the Transport City, also joined the navy October 4 1917 and trained at Great Lakes before serving on troop transports to France. Moore returned with a France collection and items from the German occupation, including buttons and a German crest, while Snyder prepares for Atlantic duty aboard transport ships.

Auto Crash Involving Vorndrad Cadillac On East Berry Street

A familiar Cadillac Eight suffered severe damage after skidding and crashing into a tree at Lafayette and Wayne streets. Killian Vorndrad was uninjured. Adam Schmitt sustained a scalp wound, and three children in the car were badly injured. The driver allegedly braked to avoid a bus on a bicycle.
