Piper’s whereabouts were unknown, later he was arrested via a letter sent to him in Hamilton Ontario. Piper’s wife and mother insist on his innocence.
United Press reports Indianapolis officials plan a large welcome for returning Indiana soldiers. Efforts with Washington seek War Department authorization to demobilize McAeler soldiers at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Some guardsmen are expected to land in the United States, with a special homecoming celebration likely even if a camp outside the state is chosen.
