Gifts Break the Record Hopeful Report Presented at KC Assembly
The Presbyterian General Assembly in Kansas City heard a foreign missions report praising growth and self support across missions. In the year, 44 new missionaries were sent out, receipts totaled 1 214 241.61, with a deficit due to higher foreign demands. The board oversees 28 missions in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, 145 stations, 863 mile of roads, 9400 native workers and 85 407 communicants. Native churches show strong self funding in Laos and Korea, and Philippine churches welcomed about 2 100 new adult members. The assembly also debated a simplified intermediate catechism and a Bible endorsement proposal, ultimately tabling the latter by a narrow vote. Officers of the women's board of foreign missions were elected.
