Oliver E. Elwell walked nine miles in from Goshen Road and entered Reed City and Fort Wayne transit areas with the disease. He was diagnosed with smallpox by a physician and sent to the pest house under Health Commissioner MacBeth. He had recently traveled from Hawkins Rich to Reed City and Fort Wayne with potatoes, and is now described as severely ill with the outbreak.

Casper Wyoming March 88 Charles Fricis Woodward condemned murderer of Sheriff W Clicker was hanged in his night clothes at 1 o clock this morning by twenty four masked armed men on the scaffold built for the legal execution. The men overpowered Sheriff Tabbs, secured the keys and released the condemned prisoner with as much ceremony as possible. At 1 o clock there came a loud rap at the sheriff s door and twenty four men appeared.
