Word reaches Middletown Newfoundland that Comelus Van Ness a Port Jarvis militia leader formerly of New York was baptized in the River Jordan by Rev William Jg Hat of Mawrb urg New York. Mr and Mrs Van Ness sailed aboard the steamer Celtic for the Orient to fulfill a lifelong ambition to be baptized in the Jordan River.
