Captain Andrew C. McMaken, son of Fort Wayne pioneer Joseph McMaken, died June 12 at his Atchison home after a long heart illness. Born October 26, 1833, he served in the Civil War, rising to captain in the 1st Nebraska Cavalry and later held commands at Fort Kearney. Survived by two daughters, he returned to Fort Wayne for the first time in fifty years in 1908 and spent weeks with nieces and nephews.
