Garrett Railroad Men Honor Dead

Two memorial services were held in Garrett Indiana by the railroad orders and their auxiliaries. The processions to Calvary cemetery honored departed members, many who died at their posts while trying to save lives. The event recalled memorial day as members decorated graves and remembered heroic railroad workers.

New Machinery Arrives for Columbia City Plant

In Columbia Indiana on June 11 workers received new machinery from Westinghouse of Pittsburgh and an engine from Harrisburg Engine Co. The modern 160 horsepower engine will power the plant for years while the rest of the latest pattern equipment is installed. The facility will be fully equipped and wiring work begins before current is in use.

Wheat Gutting in Whitley County Starts Early

Columbia City Ind June 20 Wheat cutting in Whitley County begins early with John Kourt of Columbia Township starting Tuesday after hearing a reaper. The county reports grain ahead of past years by ten days to two weeks and harvest may finish before July 1. Several farmers are preparing to enter their fields.

Board of Pardons to Consider Dockets Next Week

Indianapolis June 4 twenty one cases are docketed for consideration by the state board of pardons when it meets next week. Notable entries include James Beach of Lagrange county sentenced May 19 1920 to fourteen years for assault and battery in state prison. Howard Fisel of Noble county sentenced March 8 1920 to twenty one years for rape reformitory. Orie Chum of Wells county sentenced March 8 1909 to two to twenty years for involuntary manslaughter in reformatory. Includes Joseph Barcelona of Lagrange county murder. Thomas Davidson of county sentenced July 8 1690 feminine r state prison, refused September 1909.

Kosciusko County farmer Deatti died suddenly on a Sunday at his daughter's home near Meris chupul. He was about 40, had suffered months from heart trouble though not deemed serious. Men Buy Timber Tract in Marshall County, Indiana

In Waray June 20 Owen Gaskill and Edward Genkitt, of Waray, purchased a 160 acre timber tract in Walnut Township, Marshall County. The land, part of the David Zehner estate who died over a year ago, was valued at 80,025 dollars for 608 acres. The buyers paid 21,526 dollars for the 160 acre tract as heirs seek a satisfactory division and court sale.

New Constitution Upheld by Simms in Indianapolis

An Indianapolis court hearing on the proposed new constitution to be submitted to voters continued with John J. Dye for the plaintiff and Daniel W. Simms of Lafayette for the defense. The argument spanned over three hours with Attys Kane Harris for the plaintiff and Roby Stotenburg Hammonden and AAG J B McCullough for the defense. Korean party heads to Korea mining post in Far East deal

Columbia City Indiana reports Jonathan Joseph Lower and family leaving Thursday for San Francisco then sailing January 23 to Korea to join Korea Mining company. Lower will resume work while taking three Whitley County and one Iowa boy under contract for three years. The party receives $50 travel funds, belts paid, and $125 monthly on arrival. Lower, with the company five years, holds a responsible position amid ten twenty four Whitley County people at present.
