In Fort Wayne from 2 to 4 pm Saturday the city endured record heat with the government bureau showing 96 degrees and street levels up to 100 with pavement radiance. Prostrations were common, water shortages appeared, and hotels fed guests from hydrants while crowds sought relief in moving park cars and soda counters.
Fireman Hedges of Fort Wayne and a Pennsylvania contingent suffered sunstroke while on duty in Hevefrue Ohio this afternoon. Doctors say he has a slight chance of recovery. He was moved to Fort Wayne last night with a Lima physician and met by a fire department delegation before being taken to St Joseph’s hospital. He is single and lives with his grandmother at 419 Dawson Street.

A Fort Wayne Civic Improvement committee outlines a proposed boulevard along the St. Joe river from Elizabeth Street to Baltes Avenue. They expect it to boost riverfront property values by about a half million dollars and plan to hold a mass meeting of landowners to push the project forward.
Jacob Agne of 1019 Oneidai Street rescued two seven to eight year old boys from eight feet of water at Delta Lake Lakeside on Saturday afternoon. The boys, Keener and Bowler, had fallen in while fishing near the Columbia Avenue bridge. Agne dragged them from the lake, aided by no one, and revived them. The incident occurred as the lake lacks protection since Detta Lake Beach closed. Agne works for Fort Wayne Printing and was in the area building a house on Delta Boulevard.
Governor Judson Harmon of Ohio urged Notre Dame law graduates to place duty over wealth, warning that the desire for riches tempts lawyers to compromise ethics. He stressed that lawyers must withdraw when a client pursues ignoble means or when law opposes justice, noting wealth’s spread erodes integrity in the temple of justice. He cited the graduates including Arthur Schellinger and Joseph Murphy among others.
Washington June 10 A general call went out for senators to attend Monday to vote on a resolution authorizing a constitutional amendment to permit direct election of United States Senators by the people. The main clash centers on Bristow’s amendment reserving federal oversight of elections. outcome uncertain, but indications favor passage of direct election provisions.
Four people were injured when a Toledo and Chicago interurban collided with city car 189 at Lake Erie crossing on Welty Street. Conductor W C Rowland and Mala Evans oversaw the interurban, with witnesses saying the city car halted to check the tracks. Injuries ranged from back wrench and bruises to torn ligaments and a head wound. all victims were attended by Dr. Tinkham and Bolman before being sent home or to hospital. Authorities launched a rigid investigation to determine fault, with initial blame leaning toward the interurban motorman.
Despite uncomfortably hot weather 216 Allen county graduates gathered with parents and friends at the Princess rink for the annual commencement exercises. The stage featured graduates in white dresses with class colors and a platform for speakers. A band from the state school and the Dudley Buck quartet performed as the program began at 2:40 after the speaker’s arrival was delayed. Reverend C Glaude Travie gave the invocation followed by H G Felger’s opening remarks and Dr S D Fess’s commencement address praising the audience’s intelligence. Continues on Page 29.
In Muncie Indiana the county commissioners ruled on remonstrances against alcohol restrictions. The decision left the dry wards in First Third and Fourth with no change while Fifth and Sixth wards remained vulnerable to wet influence. May 2 election had dry status in First Third and Fourth wards and a wet result in Fifth by 338 votes. Wets protested alleged dry majorities after remonstrances.

Mexico City June 10 Francisco I Madero told an Associated Press representative that if he becomes president Sendt de la Barra should be foreign minister and General Reyes should be war minister. Both men indicated they would accept those posts and Reyes urged political support for the candidacy.
June 10 at Hawthorne park two auto mobile races ended early after Maurice Basle in an Abbott Detroit died from skull fracture when his car overturned near the grandstand turn. Joe Daggersberger in a Case car escaped serious harm after his vehicle vaulted a fence at the same spot. Spectators yelled Robbers and Fakers as officials halted the event and offered a few exhibition drives.
About seven to eight hundred men joined the street parade closing the third day of the Indiana Sunday School association convention. Led by the Packard City band, banners fluttered as the nine block march moved through the business district. Prizes and trophies were awarded for county classes, and a mass meeting at First Presbyterian featured Rev. P. J. Alberthus and speakers including Dr. Woelfkin and Miss Elizabeth Kilpatrick.
