Henry Lerch twenty one son of Frank Lerch grocer and meat dealer at 2620 Force street died after grabbing a live wire at the corner of Gay and Pontiac on a wet night. He screamed my pulse and fell unconscious and lived eight minutes. Coroner investigated. mother warned due to heart condition. Lerch was a St Peters Catholic parishioner and was eighteen nine children. Remains sent to Schone undertaking for burial.

Young Farmer Hurt In Runaway Near City
Richard Conrad, a young farmer living four miles west of town, was badly injured in a runaway on Wayne Street near Clinton. His friend William Hathaway was only bruised. The horse struck a telephone pole as it bolted, tossing both men to the ground. Conrad suffered a scalp wound and a severe concussion, remained unconscious briefly, and was taken to Hope hospital by ambulance.

Three Riders Drowned When Auto Plunged From Rush Street Bridge
In Chicago on June 10 an auto carrying five occupants plunged through the open Rush Street Bridge draw into the Chicago River. Three occupants drowned: Jerome G. Kurtzman and his wife, and W. A. Hartley. Two others, W. H. Hoops Jr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Runyan, were rescued after hours in the water, unconscious at first but later recovering. The crash occurred on the bridge approach where steep slopes and a nonsecured roadway prevented crossings. Hoops attempted a risky turn to avoid the open draw but the car nosed into the river, dragging the others down with it. Rescue boats and dock workers pulled Hoops and Mrs Runyan from the water. The three bodies remained missing for some time, with currents carrying them downstream. The Kurtzman family was linked to Minneapolis and Indianapolis through relatives and marriage.

Singer Bros. elevator at Dixon burned early this morning destroying about two thousand bushels of wheat and one thousand bushels of corn. Loss estimated at 10 000 dollars with 6 000 dollars insured. Heavy rain saved Jos Clem hardware store beside the elevator with about 200 dollars damage. The fire started in the divine room after the night watchman left. The firm had rebuilt after a June 17 1904 fire.
