In Gosium Indiana July a 42 foot canoe built earlier that year by W Stevenson's company of Marion exploded injuring five aboard. Miss Helen Stevenson Lamont and Mrs Stevenson, owner of the craft, were burned. John W Free of Marion and Miss T le of Goshen were also hurt. All jumped into the water and were rescued by Walter and Thomas Hatch nearby.
