La Follette to File Amendment on Tariff Reform

Washington July 1 Senator La Follette announced a proposed amendment to the Camellan reciprocity plan aiming to cut duties on wool and cotton. He says the measure would save consumers about 129 million on cotton and 2 thousand on woolens, while revenue would fall by about 30 million. The plan lowers ad valorem duties to 24 percent on cotton and reduces overall duties by more than 26 percent, arguing current rates overprotect American manufacturers from European competition.
