Eight hours into deliberations in the Jennie Wealeh misappears misapplied funds case at the Chicago National Bank jurors showed no verdict after final arguments. Judge Anderson instructed the jury on good and bad faith acts to determine criminality. Walsh expressed confidence in an exonerating verdict and planned to attend to business nearby.
Postoffice Inspector B A Barrias arrested Willacy Te Krause, a prosperous Elk Hart farmer and former mall-order worker, for repeating canceled stamps at Welkinton. Krause, angry letters missing delivery, admitted beating canceled stamps for six months and initially blamed his wife before confessing. He was bound over to trial under forty dollars.

In South Bend on January 16 Mrs. Mary Reintzelman killed herself by entering a cistern at her Portage avenue home and pulling the lid shut. Her body was recovered after a four hour search by her husband and neighbor Joseph Rizer who helped look for her.
A woman in Portland reportedly died instantly when an accidental shotgun discharge occurred between 9 and 10 am Wednesday. Mr Porter, residing near Nei Pictsburg, described seeing a chicken hawk circling the barnyard and telling his wife to fetch the shotgun. The weapon discharged with the blast striking the woman in the head.
