German Coal Strike Expands As Miners Walk Out En Masse

An army of 68 858 miners across ninety mine shafts has quit, with leaders losing control as independent unions vote to join the strike. Essen conference had urged halt until January 16 response from mine owners, but additional meetings pushed the strike forward in Berlin.

General Lawton post G A R Jast ffisht installed its officers and enjoyed a pleasant lunch and smokers. Comrade George Erman acted as installing officer. New officers include Post commander D J Beecher and senior vice commander F Grumman among others. Lion St post installed officers with William Donnell as commander and J Kreis as chaplain.

Murder in the first degree verdict against Frank Hottman

After six minutes the jury found Frank Hottman guilty of murder in the first degree for the May 10 killing of Clarence M. Myers. Mrs. Sadie Myers, widow of the victim, is jailed awaiting trial. Hottman said Mrs Myers admitted him, he struck Myers with a billiard cue, Myers fought, Mrs Myers aided, and the pair fatally attacked the unconscious man with a razor and scissors.

Found Jug of Gold Hidden by Farmer Thirty Years Ago

In Hamilton Ohio on January 19 Charles Smith a wealthy Union township farmer uncovered a hidden jar of about 2000 dollars in gold while tearing down a chimney on the Seward farm. Seward died thirty years earlier after paralysis and could not reveal the cache. Clinton Seward hunted for it until his death two years ago without success.

Postal Progress league seeks restraining order on Platt seat

New York Jan 15 The Postal Progress league chair Port of Battle Creek Mich says he saw a panel and will ask the U S Supreme Court for a restraining order to prevent Senator Thomas C Platt from taking his seat The action stems from Platts ties to the United States Express Co and opposition to the parcels post. Post says lawyers will file next week and the question of jurisdiction and constitutional right to intervene will be argued.
