An army of 68 858 miners across ninety mine shafts has quit, with leaders losing control as independent unions vote to join the strike. Essen conference had urged halt until January 16 response from mine owners, but additional meetings pushed the strike forward in Berlin.
General Lawton post G A R Jast ffisht installed its officers and enjoyed a pleasant lunch and smokers. Comrade George Erman acted as installing officer. New officers include Post commander D J Beecher and senior vice commander F Grumman among others. Lion St post installed officers with William Donnell as commander and J Kreis as chaplain.
Fort Wayne loses 6 to 2 at Indianapolis as Higgins and Houghton spark a fast start and lead the hosts. Pierce, new to the lineup, shows polo skills but cannot stop the slide. Whipple and Leydon assist in the scoring while Devlin anchors defense. Final score Indianapolis 6 Port Wayne 2.
In Terre Haute and Kokomo reports, Silver Stars defeated 14th School 11 to 4 before a large crowd. Key players included Clara Thieme, Minnie Lindemann, Maud Miles, Ruth Beers, and Jenness. Referee Clyde Driesbach officiated with Wilding coordinating gym activities.
The Ideals defeated the Fox-Hite Co five in the Brunswick league last night by a 3 to 1 score. The match featured strong bowling from Ideals players as the tourna ment continues at Acme Alleys with Fred Reynolds delivering notable efforts.

After six minutes the jury found Frank Hottman guilty of murder in the first degree for the May 10 killing of Clarence M. Myers. Mrs. Sadie Myers, widow of the victim, is jailed awaiting trial. Hottman said Mrs Myers admitted him, he struck Myers with a billiard cue, Myers fought, Mrs Myers aided, and the pair fatally attacked the unconscious man with a razor and scissors.
An old ad claims a guaranteed cure for piles including itching bleeding and protruding varieties. It states the product will refund money if PAZO OINTMENT fails to cure in six to fourteen days and notes the price as 50 cents.
In Anderson Indiana the Western League game ended 3 to 1 with Anderson beating Marion. The first period was rough while the last two were slow. Woedtke left the game after a mouth blow in the second period. Officer and Miller filled in as substitutes.
Commercial Bowling league resumed with Kerr Murrays defeating Western Gas 2 to 1 and F Bowsers beating Electric Works 2 to 1. Fort Wayne Drug Co. won 2 to 1 over Moss man Yarnelles as scores followed.
The Specials five man team led by Frank Bennett and including John Moritz Frank Farnan John Kelly and Frank K Hills challenges the Brunswick All Star to a three game series on the Brunswicks alleys for 102 side The Specials two man Eureka team of Frank Farnan and Frank Hills challenges Charles and Fred Reynolds to five games on the Brunswicks alleys for 10 a side They also invite the Reynolds brothers to roll single games for a self defined stake An early reply is requested.
In Hamilton Ohio on January 19 Charles Smith a wealthy Union township farmer uncovered a hidden jar of about 2000 dollars in gold while tearing down a chimney on the Seward farm. Seward died thirty years earlier after paralysis and could not reveal the cache. Clinton Seward hunted for it until his death two years ago without success.
New York Jan 15 The Postal Progress league chair Port of Battle Creek Mich says he saw a panel and will ask the U S Supreme Court for a restraining order to prevent Senator Thomas C Platt from taking his seat The action stems from Platts ties to the United States Express Co and opposition to the parcels post. Post says lawyers will file next week and the question of jurisdiction and constitutional right to intervene will be argued.
