Laborers Strike Leads to Across Board Wage Increase

In a long wage dispute at Pennsy shops, a 10 percent raise to 14 cents an hour was secretly approved and later distributed after a worker's pay day. The surprise increment, planned earlier, triggered quiet acclaim among workers once public, increasing hourly pay back to former levels. Several workers changed positions or were injured in incidents at various Pennsylvania and Wabash works, with rail traffic briefly disrupted by wrecks and track incidents. Dated notes cover January events, new hires, resignations, and ongoing labor conditions across multiple shops and counties.
