Captain Watkins to complete surveys in six weeks

Captain Watkins heads surveying for the proposed Thlede Fort Wayne and Chief cani route project. Geld men are assigned parts of the work with intent to have data in the local office by January 1. He expects no delay to the overall army engineers report due April 1, with a broader Westward move planned by May. Sutherland Miller and Sachnus supervise data compilation, while Miss Snyder sees a salary increase. The Wayne Medical Society dinner is set for tonight at 8:15 at the Elks club.

Three Banks Buy Cressler Property at Auction

The Old First and Hamilton National banks purchased the Cressler property at sheriff's sale for about $96,000 from the east door of the Allen county courthouse. The bid included West Berry street holdings, a 34 acre tract in Wayne township, and a 0 acre parcel next to the homestead. The banks face judgments totaling roughly $227,000 and will pro rate the property. The sale closes the Kerr Murray Manufacturing Company receivership case and related litigation.

No Saloon In Old Hiser Roadhouse

Lewis Smith failed to appear in commissioners court yesterday morning as the board refused to grant a license to open a saloon on the Cashen road in Washington township. The decision cited that the premises and distance to the public school violated the license terms. The case drew remonstrance from Theodore Bates and representation by John Dieffman and Filmer Leonard.
